Last Sunday, John fell off his bike and broke his arm. While no surgery was required, he did have to go to the emergency room, get x-rays, have the bone set, and then get a cast to help it heal. Beyond John's pain and inconvenience, the total cost to get his arm fixed up was $2,500. Let's see how much this might cost John out of his pocket under different metal levels of health plans...
If John had a Platinum plan, his monthly costs for the health plan were probably pretty high, but he would only have to pay $250 out of his pocket (10% of the $2,500) for the services he needed to treat his injury.
If John had a Bronze plan, his monthly costs for the health plan would be much lower than the Platinum plan, but he would have to pay $1,000 out of his pocket (40% of the $2,500) for the services needed to care for his broken arm.
